Remember to order your regular prescriptions in time for Christmas

PrescriptionsDr Scott Turner, medical director at the East of England Ambulance Service and a practising GP gives some good advice about preparations for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“There’s a lot to think about at this time of year but if you have a long term condition like diabetes or heart disease, or are a carer, one thing you really must remember is to order your regular prescriptions.  Ordering your essential medicines well in time for the holidays means that you have one less thing to think about.

Wise Up for Winter Logo“Because of the holidays and the amount of illnesses which circulate in the community at this time of year, your GP practice and pharmacy may be busier than normal.  So save yourself some time and help the NHS, by ordering your repeat prescriptions as early as you can and remember to collect the prescription in good time.

“We don’t want anyone to run out of their medication over Christmas or New Year, and maybe then need hospital treatment when they could be enjoying time with friends and family. The ambulance service cannot issue repeat prescriptions when people run out but if you find that you have an urgent medical problem over the holiday period call the NHS 111 service for advice and access to the GP Out-of-Hours Service in your area.”
